For this edition of the BRAEID Film Club we’re leaving the news cycle and descending into the flesh. Biohorror asks what happens when bodies, technology and desire blur: identity dissolves, parasites take root and the line between you and the organism around you goes fuzzy. It’s about as far away from the doomscroll as you can get — and yet strangely relevant.
How it works:
- Check out these films: read the blurbs and watch the trailers.
- RSVP via the form: tell us your headcount and which film you’re leaning toward. We’ll vote and screen the winner together.
See you on November 22nd at Fishbein’s Filmhaus for an evening of body‑horror, biotech fever dreams and post‑film philosophy. Bring your curiosity and maybe a strong stomach.
Upstream Color (2013, Shane Carruth)
An enigmatic couple find their lives bound together by a parasite that travels through pigs and orchids. Carruth’s hypnotic film is less about plot than about the sensation of losing yourself in another, and maybe in the entire ecosystem.
Beyond the Black Rainbow (2011, Panos Cosmatos)
In a retro‑futuristic institute, a young woman with psychic abilities is held captive by a sinister doctor. Saturated neon, analogue synths and cosmic paranoia make this a visual tone poem about control and transcendence.
Antiviral (2012, Brandon Cronenberg)
In a near future obsessed with celebrity, fans pay to be infected with viruses harvested from the stars. A clinic employee must smuggle a lethal bug out of his own body. A sharp satirical riff on fame culture and the commodification of disease.
FAQ:
- Screening: Home theater projection on a 12-foot cinema screen.
- Seating: First come first serve for the four motorized reclining cloud-couch seats. Plenty of other totally viable seats too.
- Snacking: We’ll provide the dish, but this is potluck style! Bring a side, a drink, or a sugary treat!
- Parking: We own the dirt lot next door. Use that! Try not to crash into bulldozers, etc.
- Timing: We’ll eat and play the flick whenever the mob sees fit.
