A bit of personal history with the film:

A long time ago (14 years), in a galaxy far far away (Tucson, Arizona), a boy named Fish took his very first film class.

This film class was taught by a wise magician named Mr. Passmore. The magician saw the boy as lump of clay – misshapen, amorphous, but destined for greatness!

Well, maybe not greatness…

If this teacher glimpsed any future, ‘twas likely a dark one for the boy. And if he ever sought to shape the clay, ‘twould have likely been solely to avert darkness rather than inspire greatness. “First things must come first.” He may have said to himself. And if he ever did, he would have been right!

Tarantino-ing to the end of the story, the boy flirted but ultimately averted the darkest of darknesses. In fact, he still makes films to this very day! The magician’s influence was instrumental, and the boy has never forgotten this.

Tarantino-ing back to the middle, a particular memory that (thanks to YouTube) will never fade was a 2nd year assignment: “In the Style of Wong Kar-wai”. The class was broken into groups, and tasked with picking a scene from one of Kar-wai’s films, reimagining it (anglicize it, really), and reproducing it.

I picked “In the Mood for Love”.
